Tai Chi Can Increase Human's Body Immunity


Someone, who frequently does Tai Chi, will posses a stronger body to be against Virus. A condition such as painful nerve, which is caused of varicella-zoster virus, can live in human’s body for years after being infected and then it will be shingles. This disease generally appears when someone reaches 50 years old above, because in these ages, someone’s anti-body level has decreased.

Tai Chi, a centuries sport, is one of martial arts. This exercise includes aerobic activities, relaxation, and meditation. In a study donated by National Institutes of Health, Department of Health in America, the researchers involved 112 volunteers who were from 59 years old to 86 years old. They—the researchers—divided the volunteers into two groups. One of the groups was asked to do Tai Chi for about 40 minutes 3 times a week in 16 weeks, while another group was given a health consulting class.

The researchers led by Dr. Michael R. Irwin from The University of California, Los Angeles, discovered that people who did Tai Chi were able to increase their body immunity from varicella-zoster. They also discovered that when the volunteers were vaccinated to the virus after the study started, the people who did Tai Chi possessed better response to the virus. This study was reported in The Journal of The American Geriatrics Society.
